Grace Marion Filak

On Christmas Day, Grace Filak (nee Miller), age 90, passed away peacefully at home.  She was surrounded by her husband of 68 years, Andrew, and her loving family.  Grace, was born on January 15, 1928 in Jersey City.  She was the second of six children born to Helen and George Miller.  Grace graduated from Dickinson High School, and received her nursing degree from Bellevue Nursing School. She was also an active member of St. John the Baptist parish.

She is survived by her husband Andrew, and her seven children - Barbara Goss, Andrew Jr., Michael, Douglas, Kathleen, Ronald and Maureen Sauer; her 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Grace is also survived by her sister Helen Calvanico and brother George Miller.  She was pre-deceased by three sisters – Ruth Bolger, Alice Reilly and Edith Critelli.

Grace’s passion was her family, and her legacy is her children.  With her husband Andy, she worked to ensure that they each got a great education and graduated college. She also instilled a sense of service in each of her children.

Grace will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and friend.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8 PM . A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at St. John The Baptist Church, Jersey City at 11:00 AM.
