Andrew T. Filak, 98, passed away on Friday, May 17th, 2024 at his home. Mr. Filak was a lifelong Jersey City resident. He grew up in Downtown Jersey City, as one of eleven children, and raised his family Uptown near Journal Square. He was known around the neighborhood as "Handy Andy" because he could fix anything. Andrew was also generous with his time and helped out his neighbors when he could. He was a devout man, praying daily. Andrew worked at Westinghouse in Bloomfield where he was a High-voltage electrician; he was also known as "Lightbulb Man". Mr. Filak was a consumate family man and would often say, "I'm the luckiest guy in the world." He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Filak was predeceased by his Loving wife, Grace (nee Miller); his daughter, Kathleen; his son-in-law, Jimmy Goss and his granddaughter, Beth Fusco Sharp. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Barbara Goss, Andrew Thomas Filak, Jr. and his wife Patricia, Michael Filak and his wife Carol, Douglas Filak and his wife Jackie, Ronald Filak and his wife Michele and Maureen Sauer and her husband Shaun; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Relatives & friends are invited to atend the Funeral Service at 9:30 am at the funeral home. Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Jersey City on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 10:30 am. Visiting at the funeral home on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 5-9 pm. Private cremation service at Rosehill Crematory in Linden, NJ.
