Diego Mero Obituary

Diego Enrique Mero, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and beloved family patriarch, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, at the age of 99.

Diego was born on August 17, 1927, in Manabí, Ecuador. In 1968, he came to the United States with his beloved wife, Dolores, and their five children, beginning a new chapter in their lives together. Through hard work, determination, and an unwavering commitment to his family, Diego built a life filled with love, dignity, and cherished memories.

For many years, Diego worked at Teen Form, a garment factory in Carlstadt, New Jersey. He was a hardworking and dependable man who took great pride in providing for his family. Yet, above all else, his family was the most important part of his life.

Diego enjoyed the simple pleasures that enriched his days. He loved reading, particularly Reader’s Digest magazine, and remained interested in current events by watching the news on television and reading the newspapers. He also enjoyed watching movies and spending time with those he loved. Diego and Dolores shared a love of travel and enjoyed discovering new places together. Dolores, his beloved wife, passed away in 2014, but the love they shared remained an important part of Diego’s life.

Some of Diego’s happiest moments were spent surrounded by his family. He treasured large family dinners, gatherings, conversations, and the opportunity to see his children, grandchildren, and generations that followed. His greatest legacy is the family he and Dolores built together and the love, values, and memories he leaves with them.

Diego is survived by his five children: his eldest daughter, Lilia Abril and her husband, Angel; Enrique Mero and his wife, Sandra; Carlos Mero and his wife, Rosa; Dolores Avila and her husband, Jorge; and Rosa Palaguachi.

He is also survived by his brother, Pedro Mero and his wife, Gladys; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren, as well as many extended family members and friends who will remember him with great affection.

Diego will be remembered as a hardworking, loving, and devoted family man whose greatest joy came from being surrounded by the people he loved. His 99 years were a testament to perseverance, family, and a life well lived. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
