Flordeliza Alcantara-Reyes

Flordeliza Alcantara-Reyes, 74, of Jersey City, passed away on Sunday, February 3rd, 2019 at Father Hudson House, Elizabeth surrounded by her beloved family.

Flordeliza was predeceased by her parents, the late Judge Arsenio Alcantara and Belen Castro and her brother, Atty. Arsenio Alcantara, Jr. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Dr. Abelsenia Noche and her husband Dr. Rolando Noche; her sister-in-law, Virgie Alcantara; her immediate family members, Christine, Arsenio, Tiara, Jonjon, Ronnie, Abigail, Mustapha, Tintin, Fatima, Carol and Alexie; her grandchildren, Omar, Amir, Amina, Brendan, Arianne Samantha, Andre Luis, Basti, Caitlin and Cassandra; her extended family, Judy Aprosta, Malcolm Hume, Marjorie Lina, Aaliyah, Alexis Williams, Jeanna Paulsen, Jeanneffer Harris, Gerry Milano, Melissa Patacsil and Conrado Ramos; her longtime friends, Pastor Willie and his wife Sol. Her beloved pet, Junior.

Flordeliza was an educator, missionary, political advocate and active member of various community organizations. She graduated from Colombia University, New York City, with a Masters of Arts degree in Business Education. She earned her Master of Public Administration degree from Philippine Woman's University and a Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Law degree from University of the Philippines. She was the first Asian-American trustee of the Jersey City Board of Education from 1986-89. Flordeliza was also the first Asian woman to stand as a candidate for the Jersey City City Council. She was the first Asian-American administrator of a State prison and she received the Jersey Journal Woman of Achievement Award in 1985 and the 1991 Phil. Press (Aquino) award; she was listed In Who's Who of American Women in 1991; President Clinton certificate of recognition as Surrogate Speaker in 1992 and in 1996 elected to the White House Asian Pacific Caucus. She received Democratic National Committee 1984 citations from Gov. Corzine and Gov. McGreevey and Plaques from Phil. Consulate and community organizations. 

She founded the first Phil. Plaza in the East Coast dedicated to the Phil. American veterans of all wars located in Jersey City. She was also an administrator of the Northern State Prison. She was also a adjunct professor at New Jersey City University . She was also a certified Methodist lay servant and member of United Methodist Church. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Columbia University Chapter in 1970. Delta Phi Epsilon of Columbia University in 1970. 

Relatives & friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at 4:00 pm on Sunday, 2/10, at Christ United Methodist Church, 2811 John F. Kennedy Boulevard, Jersey City 07306.
