Leslie "German" Ramrattan Chowlan

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Leslie "German" Ramrattan Chowlan, who departed this life peacefully on July 23, 2026, at the age of 85.

Leslie was born on June 13th, 1941, in Fyrish Village, Corentyne, Berbice, Guyana. He dedicated the early years of his career to education, serving as a respected school teacher in Guyana. His final teaching appointment was at Fyrish Village Primary School, where he was admired by colleagues, students, and members of the community for his patience, kindness, and commitment to helping young minds grow.

In 1984, Leslie immigrated to the United States, where he built a life centered on faith, family, and friendship. He was a gentle and thoughtful man whose wisdom, warm smile, and quiet strength touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Leslie found great joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid reader who enjoyed expanding his knowledge through books. A devoted cricket enthusiast, he rarely missed an opportunity to watch a match. He also loved playing dominoes and cards with family and friends and embraced modern technology by enjoying his favorite games on his iPad, always keeping his mind active and engaged.

Above all else, Leslie cherished his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Jean S. Chowlan, whose love and companionship were the foundation of their life together.

He was predeceased by his beloved son, Ramesh Ramrattan, whose memory remained forever close to his heart.

He is lovingly survived by his sons, Rajendra Ramrattan and his wife, Sita, Ravi Ramrattan, and Rajesh Ramrattan; his daughters, Debbie Moonsammy and her husband, Derick, and Shalini Jaigobind and her husband, Joseph.

Leslie is also survived by his loving sisters, Guitry Jagdeo and her husband, Steven, and Savitri Reginald.

He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Richard, Raymond, Courtney, Ashley, Charles, Joanne, Samantha, Michelle, and Andrea, each of whom brought him tremendous joy. He was also blessed with one cherished great-grandchild, Leo, whose presence filled his heart with happiness.

Leslie will be remembered for his quiet dignity, gentle spirit, unwavering devotion to his family, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. His legacy of love, integrity, education, and compassion will continue to live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Though he has left this earthly life, the memories he created, the lessons he taught, and the love he shared will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend the Visiting on Monday, 7/27, from 6:00 - 10:00PM. We shall gather at the funeral home for the Pooja service on Tuesday, 7/28, at 9:00AM, leaving for the cremation at 11:00AM. The cremation is scheduled at Garden State Crematory, North Bergen at 12:00PM.
