Marie D. Williams (nee DiMatteo), 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Georgia on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025. She was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, in the Marion section, a place she always held close to her heart.
Marie was predeceased by her beloved husband, John "Jack" Williams (2000), and her son, John Williams (2018). She is survived by her loving family: her son Thomas Williams and his wife Renee; her son Carl Williams and his wife Gina; and her daughter-in-law Roxi Williams. She is also survived by her brothers, Joseph and his wife Judy, and Thomas and his wife Mary Lou. Marie was a proud and devoted grandmother to T.J., Jenna, Anthony, Cara, and Lia, and a cherished great-grandmother to Ezra.
Marie attended William L. Dickinson High School, where she was captain of the Majorettes, a role that reflected her leadership and spirited personality. She went on to earn her master's degree fron Jersey City State College, valuing education throughout her life.
A dedicated educator, Marie worked as a teacher at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, St. Ann's School and Dickinson High School. leaving a lasting impact on generations of students. Known for her generosity, Marie was one of the most giving people to those who knew her.
In her free time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble, word games, and was an avid fan of the television show Jeopardy. She and her husband enjoyed many years as snowbirds in Florida, creating treasured memories together. In 2024, Marie moved to Georgia to be closer to her son and family.
Marie will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, love of learning, and unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, intellect, and love that will be forever cherished.
Relatives & friends are invited to attend the Funeral on Tuesday, 12/23, at 9:30AM at the funeral home. 10:30AM Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Jersey City. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation at the funeral home on Monday, 12/22, from 2:00 - 4:00PM & 7:00 - 9:00PM.
