Morad Shokry Gergues was born November 11th, 1958, in Cairo, Egypt as the son to the late Shokry and Mary Gergues. Morad was brother to Marcel and the late Magdy. He came to the states when he was 18 to pursue a better life as a businessman. He opened and started his own business, the American Laundromat in 1985 on West Side Ave in Jersey City, where the store still is open today. There he became part of the local community and attended St. Marks Coptic Orthodox Church. He devoted his life to his business and preparing its success for his family – a legacy to live on. Starting in 1991 he became a father and is succeeded by his sons Mark and Jake Gergues, and since 2014 is grandfather to Alexander Gergues.
Morad loved to fish with his father and continued throughout his life sharing his passion with his sons and grandson. He also loved to grow his own vegetables in his backyard and take fun boat rides at the Jersey Shore. He was a devoted man who was well known for his generosity and kind nature. He loved to share his exploration of different cruise line destinations for his love of boating and the ocean. Morad was also a mean cook, that loved to experiment and try new dishes. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday, and he would cook all his favorites and begin eating it for breakfast.
He will be sorely missed, and his memory will live on through his family and the lasting foundation he started in Jersey City.
