It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Neville D’Rozario, a beloved physician, community leader, and teacher. He passed away on July 10, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born to Julian and Maria D’Rozario on June 23, 1950 in Hasnabad, he was raised in Doripara near Dhaka. Dr. D’Rozario dedicated his life to the service of others. He practiced medicine throughout the world, leaving a lasting impact on both patients and colleagues. He contributed to the Samorita Hospital in Dhaka.
Dr. D’Rozario fervently loved his country, serving as the official sports team doctor for the Bangladeshi delegation at the SAARC Games – a testament to his expertise and patriotism.
Beyond his medical career, Dr. D’Rozario was a pillar of the Bangladeshi Christian community, offering leadership and guidance that helped the community evolve and solidify its identity. A natural connector and critical thinker, he was especially passionate about motivating youth, serving as the founding secretary of Shurid Shanga and Chattra Kolyan Shangha, and inspiring countless young people through his example and encouragement. As President of the Mohakhali Christian Cooperative, he led revitalization efforts that brought essential water and sewage infrastructure, oversaw a Church expansion, and skillfully mobilized the community through two major floods. His passion for history and research culminated in the recent publication of his book on the history of Christianity in parts of Bangladesh.
To his family, he was a source of immense love and joy. He lovingly passed down a cherished family recipe for Christmas cake to his two adoring grandchildren, creating precious memories and a legacy of warmth through his love for baking.
Dr. Neville D’Rozario will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his patients, his profound devotion to his community, and his intellectual contributions to preserving history. His life was one of purpose and service, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
