Rampaul Guyadeen

Rampaul Gayadeen, 66, passed away on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of community service, civic involvement, and unwavering dedication to the city he proudly called home.

Born in Trinidad, Rampaul immigrated to Jersey City in 1971, where he built a life rooted in hard work, service, and a deep commitment to his community. He earned a respected career as a biochemist in New Jersey while also pursuing his entrepreneurial spirit as the owner and manager of Soma Video, a neighborhood video store located on the corner of Garrison Avenue and Pavonia Avenue in Jersey City. Through his business, Rampaul became a familiar and friendly face to countless residents, forging lasting friendships throughout the years.

Rampaul's greatest passion was Jersey City itself. A devoted community activist, he was deeply involved in local politics and tirelessly advocated for the betterment of the city. Whether through political involvement, supporting the local school board, or participating in civic initiatives, he believed in giving back and worked relentlessly to improve the quality of life for his fellow residents. His voice, dedication, and genuine concern for his neighbors earned him the respect and admiration of many.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Charles and Shairoon Gayadeen; his brothers, Robindra Gayadeen and Surindra Gayadeen; and his sister, Indra Voelkel.

Rampaul is lovingly survived by his brother, Kelvin Gayadeen, as well as his cherished nieces and nephews: Sharon, Diana, Victoria, Michael, Bryce, Sara, and Malakai. He also leaves behind dear friends, colleagues, and members of the Jersey City community who were touched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering civic spirit.

Rampaul Gayadeen will be remembered as a man who loved his city wholeheartedly and dedicated much of his life to making it a better place for future generations. His commitment to public service, his generosity of spirit, and his enduring belief in the power of community will remain an inspiration to all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend the Visiting at the funeral home on Sunday, 7/12, from 2:00 - 6:00PM. On Monday, 7/13, we shall gather at the funeral home at 10:00AM before leaving for Garden State Crematory, North Bergen, for the cremation service.
