Obituary

The beautiful Tonya Ann Handy-Robinson was born on May 28th, 1962 at Newark City Hospital. She attended P.S. #11 school on Bergen avenue, Lincoln and St. Aloysius high schools, and New Jersey City University. During her high school years Tonya excelled in her academic activities and enjoyed working on her talents as a writer. She decided to go beyond school papers and successfully wrote a play that was performed at the JC public library. During her youth she met her husband of 45 years Thomas Robinson Sr., and together they grew a family that Tonya would cherish for all of her days. In between caring for her family and managing her career with the United States Postal Service, Tonya enjoyed reading, cooking, listening to Motown music, spending time with her mother, children, husband, as well as other family and friends. After retirement she remained ambitious, and she returned to college at New Jersey City University, as a photography major until her illness made it too difficult to attend. Tonya was fortunate enough to develop her skills by opening a photography studio, “Keepsake Photo Creations”, where she explored entrepreneurship, being of service to the community, and the art of photography.

In her lifetime Tonya was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, an artist who could draw and sing, a playwrite, photographer, student, friend, professional, and genuinely kind soul.

Sadly, on February 18th, 2023 Tonya entered eternal rest at home with her loving husband, her youngest daughter, and eldest granddaughter in her presence.

Tonya is preceded in death by grandmothers: Anne Coppage, Ina Hilton, brother: Donald Handy, nephew: Dwight Handy Jr., cousin: Edward Croswell and father Ralph Handy Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory: husband Thomas Robinson Sr., children: Jacqueline Shirlene Handy, Thomas Robinson Jr, Trey Paul Robinson, and Joy Faith Robinson, grandchildren: Maris Tonya DelValle, Jason Dunbar, Andre Jeter Jr., Riley Robinson, and Thomas Robinson III, sisters: Miranda Neal, Laverne Neal, Nadine Handy, Zenola Handy, brothers: Ralph Handy III, Dwight Handy, uncles: Donald Croswell, Foster Croswell, and her beautiful mother Shirley Handy.

Her photo is part of her photography studio Keepsake Photo Creations.
